Horsehair Raku

The exciting process of taking moist clay and using the potter’s wheel to shape something of beauty is exhilarating.  Taking elements from the earth and painting them onto the surface of clay as a glaze is challenging.  Then firing them in a process called Raku.. where you pull the hot pots from a kiln at nearly 2000 degrees is truly a rush. A craftsman, an artist, a chemist, a pyro -ologist, are the components of a good potter.  I want to communicate beauty in my ceramic forms, glazes, and sculpted lids.  My goal is that others will recognize my passion for clay through the quality and excellence of my pottery. —George Holland

My name is George Holland and I have been involved in pottery for over 50 years and have been fortunate to have made my living through my art.  After receiving my BA and MFA degrees I taught at the university level for 9 years. My wife Wanda and I have owned 5 art/pottery galleries.. primarily in the South.  I have been a full-time artist for the last 40 years.   We also have exhibited at nationally recognized juried art shows in Florida, North Carolina, Arkansas, New Mexico and Texas.  I am fortunate to have my pottery in corporate and private collections.
